BBC MasterChef cook-off at RAF Northolt
BBC1  Wednesday 13th April at 9pm

Join MasterChef’s John Torode and Gregg Wallace as they take over the Officer’s Mess at RAF Northolt and transport us back to the 1940s to celebrate veterans of the Battle of Britain and World War 2.

Watch how their promising chefs fare with the challenge of creating a grand afternoon tea-style event for this unique gathering – served with a ‘side-order’ of music from the Royal Air Force Squadronaires and dancing from the wartime era. This special episode of the MasterChef series is aired on BBC1 at 9pm on Wednesday 13th April 2011.

Bob Foster, one of ‘The Few’ Battle of Britain veterans attending the event, says “it was a good bit of fun and a pleasure to speak with fellow veterans from Bomber Command and the Guinea Pig Club, as well as the talented youngsters cooking for us!”

“Our chefs thought it was an absolute honour to be cooking for Battle of Britain veterans, and they stepped up to the mark and handled the pressure brilliantly!” says presenter John Torode. “It was an emotional experience for everyone and fully encompassed what MasterChef is all about – sharing great food with great people.”

The programme concludes with an in-memoriam to the Station Commander at the time of the filming, Gp Capt Tom Barrett, who will be featured briefly as he welcomed the veterans to the Station.  Tom tragically died following a road traffic accident last month.
